Noise Cancelling Microphone
Noise cancelling microphones are nothing new, they've been used by the sound industry for years. Using simple destructive intereference, a noise wave equal to and exactly the opposite phase of the sound will completely eliminate the unwanted noise.
This device appears to be some sort of military web belt with eight equally spaced disks around it. A battery box hanging from what appears to be two ammo pouches holds 12 D-cell batteries and houses the amplifier. A volume control allows the weaer to set the sensitivity to blanket an area up to a 15 foot radius. Expected battery life ranges from five hours at full volume, or triple that for silencing an area a foot around the wearer.
