Brief Physical Description and Mannerisms

MC appears to be a slender, average-looking youth. On campus, he is just another face in the sea of students that ebb and flow through various buildings, distinguished only by his youthful appearance. Most often seen wearing utilitarian clothing in muted earth-tones with sensible yet comfortable shoes, he routinely wears button-down long sleeve shirts which cover the tattoos on the inside of his left forearm and back of his neck to deflect questions and idle curiosity. Though he makes no other overt effort to hide or surgically erase those markings, he limits his explanation to having grown up in a concentration camp; generally, people choose break off the questions at that point, not wishing to press the matter any further.

MC may be many things, but adept at recognizing American slang isn't one of his many talents. He tends to be somewhat slow of speech in English, as if constantly searching for the right word. Too, he tends to be very literal where the English language is concerned, though frequent exposure to English speaking people has slowly familiarized him with the idea of slang in spoken English, if not in the actual usage of colloquiums. In his mother toungues, of course, he is fully fluent in formal and informal language usage. Far from formal, the Serbian MC learned in his captivity tends to be colorful, quite descriptive even though anatomically improbable, and entirely unfit for polite company.

Outside of class at school, MC apparently lives to study. Which is to say that MC does little that doesn't revolve around study and going to class, other than a daily early morning exercise ritual. There is no mystery surrounding how he made the Dean's List: it's a well known fact around campus that he spends even more time in study groups than he spends in classes, and he doesn't miss class. Ever.  With an uncanny grasp of just the right way to explain a complex subject to his fellow students, MC might have a future as a college professor if his plans to be vet fall apart.

At the urging of his aunt and his fiancé, to expedite getting between school and his family at home, MC passed the exams to get licensed to drive and procured an Ape in his sophomore year. The Piaggio Ape may not be  very big, nor anything resembling stylish, nor is it very fast, yet the Ape serves as reliable transportation that moves MC down the road about as quickly as he cares to drive. And in his study groups, it makes him a popular person to know between school terms, especially for students trying to get home with any baggage to anywhere in Ireland.

While MC is between terms and away from school, his day starts at roughly 4am with exercise and meditation in what can best be described as an Oriental style tea garden. Without classes and studies to occupy him, he throws himself into work; he can eithery be found working at the bird sanctuary or at neighboring farms for as long as there is still daylight or need for assistance, reassuring worried owners and assisting local veterinarians in routine and emergency calls.

Character history (common knowledge in the caern):
MC literally washed up on the shores of Ireland, a traumatized youth with no recollection of who he was, where he came from, or how he’d incurred the scar across his throat that had rendered him unable to speak or the tattoo on his left forearm and the back of his neck. Physical and mental recovery led to regaining his memories and voice, as well as recovering speech in his mother tongues (German and Gaelic-Irish) and the proper schoolbook English taught in classrooms throughout Europe. It also provided him with his identity and the understanding that he has uncles and aunts and cousins in Europe and abroad, though he has no contact with his extended family outside of Ireland and little inclination to establish a closer relationship with the family.

MC answers to MC, an abbreviation of MCMXCVII, an appelation with which he would seem to identify more readily than with his given name. Rediscovering his identity proved a mixed blessing. On the one hand, he knew exactly who he was; on the other hand, he knew what sorts of horrendous things people were capable of. With his memories restored, MC  prefers to keep people distant as potential threats until he can determine otherwise. Time, and perhaps college, have either restored some his willingness to trust and accept others or taught him to keep his reservations from showing, though he's still somewhat wary when people start to gather in groups not related to study

Though he clearly remembers it, MC rarely speaks about his past, what happened to his parents, or his experiences prior to his arrival in Ireland. He either limits his explanation to having grown up in a concentration camp or falls silent should the topic of his childhood experiences arise.
