In watching the shores, I’ve established that I am not alone on this world. I have not yet established whether the natives are friendly.
The inhabitants do appear to be humanoid and civilized, though I cannot ascertain to what extent their technology has advanced. Could they be jamming my signal? Or don’t they use standard navigation beacons here? And if the beacons are not of the standard type, then who is the planet allied with?
Until I can determine the reason I can’t determine my location, I’m better off not broadcasting any locator signal. Without knowing anything about this world, I’m not certain that I wish to be located by potentially hostile forces. I am certain I’d rather not be burned as a witch or executed as a spy. Until I can determine the rules of this society, I dare not try to move among them, much less try to pass as one of them.
