Mikkelus... not Mikkelis... in Cleveland

Providing medical care to members of a successful mercenary group comes with a few perks and benefits. If you're competant, it pays steadily. If you're good, it pays well. And, with the exception of asking for professional references, mercenary groups tend to avoid asking detailed questions about a person's past or personal life. That had suited Mikkelus just fine.

Repeated sightings in the LA area placed Mikkelus in the company of mercenaries for a decade and a half. During this time, he and other members of the mercenary group could be spotted keeping a watchful eye on a person he identified as his older brother. While his brother lived frugally, Mikkelus did much better, investing in rental properties and an air ambulance company. Service does not always dictate subsisting in squalor, after all.

Then everything changed. His brother abruptly retired and left town. The mercenary group put their California holdings up for sale and relocated to a new headquarters. And he opted to follow his brother, trading the comfort of a sea-side mansion and pool for more modest and mobile accommodations: an Airstream Interstate motor home.

Even less is known about his whereabouts for the next five years than was known about his brother, for while the immigrant community spread word through the grapevine about where to find a travelling doctor sympathetic to their plight, he stayed entirely out of sight. Some speculate that Mikkelus, not Mikkelis, may have been responsible for the miraculous healing in Omaha.

Public records verify Mikkelus has a practice in Richfield, half an hour south of Cleveland. Doctor Mikkelus Vagus offers in and out-patient bio-energetic diagnosis and resonance therapy from a remodeled farmhouse. With as many reasons as the VA hospital finds to deny admission or coverage to would-be patients, the Brecksville campus of the Cleveland VA hospital sends an average of three patients a day down the road to his clinic. That they typically then deny the submitted claim of the referal does not seem to cause concern with either the VA hospital or Mikkelus.

The routine of maintaining a practice and organic gardening has left far fewer hours in the day for Mikkelus to spend monitoring his brother. To date, this has not prevented him from quietly checking up on his brother's whereabouts once or twice a week, nor kept him from buying the '87 Volvo station wagon that his brother had owned and driven for close to twenty years. In his weekly trips to Cleveland, he seems to go out of his way to avoid detection or observation by his brother.

Away from the office:
Mikkelus appears an unremarkable (App 2) male of indeterminate age. A weathered soul, time and elements have deeply etched the lines in his features and bleached his hair and beard to a salt-and-pepper mane. Laughter has written lines around his expressive grey eyes. When seen working around the farm, his usual attire is light grey jumpsuit or overalls, cinched around his waist by a woven web belt. In inclement weather, he wears a long grey London Fog coat. No matter where he is, his travel mug is seldom far from his hand.

At the office:
Seen while on duty in his RV, Mikkelus usually dresses in a white doctor's coat over light grey surgical scrubs. He typically carries sensor bands used for conducting bio-energetic analysis, a remote for controlling the specialized clinic equipment, and a smart-phone. Even if not in his hand, a coffee cup is always near.

Past
The diplomas hanging on the wall from a variety of European schools of Medicine offer a few clues to his past. While his accent shows strong Gaelic influence, he carries a US passport and an official International Red Cross passport from Switzerland. in his wallet can be found an Ohio driver's license, an international driver's license, and an international pilot's license with a powered lift rating.

Other than the official documentation, he seldom discloses many details of his past to any but those closest to him. Some of those details raise more questions than answers. To the casual inquiry, he seldom substantiates or refutes speculation concerning where he considers home, when or why he left that home, or even his age.

Present
Did Mikkelus came to Ohio from LA to make a break with his past, or to pursue it? He's fond of remarking that people tend to be where they need to be, when they need to be there, though not always when they want to be there. Few people can say for certain where specifically he goes when he cannot be found at the clinic, the garden, or the VA hospital.

Rumors still occasionally place him abroad, working with relief agencies like the International Red Cross and Doctors without Borders. It would appear that the Hippocratic Oath generally dictates his actions and attitudes.

Future
