Curious. Stepping through the door leads into the outdoor setting previously viewed through the sliding door, the surroundings seem to be entirely of another place and time; perhaps the middle ages. More curious still, the farmhouse is nowhere to be seen, replaced by a doorway in the large pillar that dominates what can only be described as a tiny island in a large pavilion.
A gently arched wooden bridge leads from the island to the feasting area at one end of the pavilion. A huge stone outcropping forms a wall for the kitchen area, supporting the stone fireplace with swinging pot-hooks. Flanked on either side by a fire-pit and a stone ovens, the cooking-space seems ample to roast a whole cow or pig!
The full wood-rack beside the fireplace holds split and whole logs. The wide stone hearth offers ample room to work, or an inviting place to sit on crisp nights. Carved wood furniture provides a surprisingly comfortable place to sit and talk, to watch the fire burn, to listen to the night sounds, or to simply relax at the end of the day.
Cold, clear water from a spring on the rocky outcropping runs continuously, diverted into one of three carved stone basins by a series of channels and diversion gates; another set of diversion gates allows hot water to be diverted from the heating tank in the fireplace to the basins as well.
A rough-hewn octagonal timber trestle table and surrounding chairs seat three abreast on each side of the table in front of the outdoor fireplace. Two long trestle tables flank the center table, provide bench seating for another dozen per side. Torches cast a pleasant flow over the feasting area.
Two pools, one large and one small, mark an edge of the pavilion.
