Partially shaded by the pavilion and winding around the support columns, with water turned to quicksilver by the glow of moonlight, the ponds are fed by a miniature waterfall and drained by a stream, meandering through the grass. The smaller pool steams invitingly in the moonlight, extending an invitation to come and soak weary, aching muscles.
The large pool varies in depth from little water at the shallow "beach" end to about twelve feet at the deepest point. The bank of the pool, rock and earth sculpted by natural processes, slopes gently to the water's edge, with grasses growing in the open and and mosses under the cover of the pavilion adding to the natural beauty. It promises quick liquid relief from the heat and a refreshing swim in the moonlight, or a quiet place to sit, soak feet, meditate, and listen to the sounds of water and the night..
A spring atop a the stony outcropping that supports the fireplaces feeds the pool. The water gushes and burbles down the rock face, forming a watery curtain over a tiny sitting-room in a "cave" behind the falls. From the pool flows a shallow stream which meanders towards what appear to be gardens.
