Bird Sanctuary

Near the end of the service road, the Ireland School of Falconry offers members of the general public the opportunity to fly a Harris Hawk in the gardens and the woodlands surrounding Ashford Castle on a scenic one hour private Hawk Walk, generally by reservation only.

Beyond the School of Falconry, on the shore of Lough Corrib, rises the tower which houses the bird sanctuary and recovery center. There, caretakers nurse injured wild birds of prey back to health before the releasing the raptors back into the wild.

To minimize the risk to birds and visitors alike, tours of the sanctuary are not allowed. The bird sanctuary remains strictly off limits to members of the general public.

The castle grounds lie to the northwest. A service road leads to the east.
